Lunch menu platform

A platform for restaurants' daily lunch menus: AI menu reading from a photo, subscriptions with online payment, emails by city and a mobile app.

The challenge

Restaurants change their lunch menu every day and usually write it on a board or a sheet of paper. People looking for somewhere to have lunch have no single place to see the menus of the restaurants around them.

The platform had to be easy enough for a restaurant to use every day without retyping the menu.

What we built

The restaurant takes a photo of its menu and uploads it. AI reads the photo and fills in the dishes and prices, and the restaurant just checks and publishes. Menus are shown by city on the website and in the mobile app.

Subscribers get the daily menus for their city by email on working days around lunchtime. Restaurants pay a subscription online by card, and the platform tracks the subscription status: new, renewed, unpaid, cancelled.

The administrator has a panel for restaurants, subscribers and campaigns, with a manual test send. Payments go through Stripe. Renewals, failed payments and cancellations come from there, and the restaurant's status changes automatically. Until payments are switched on, the screen says so clearly and does not show a button that does not work.

What changed

A restaurant publishes its menu in minutes from a photo and does not retype it.

People see the lunch menus around them in one place and get them by email before lunch.

Modules in this project (10)

Subscriptions and online payment

The customer picks a plan and pays by card, and the system issues the invoice. The subscription status changes on its own based on the payment provider's confirmation. Nobody tracks by hand who has paid and who has not.

Restaurant payouts

For a chosen period the system works out per restaurant what was paid online and on receipt, the payment fee and what is owed. Payouts are recorded against the balance, and the report downloads as CSV. Each restaurant sees its own report in its panel.

Newsletter sending

Newsletters go out from your own domain in order and on a schedule, with retries and an unsubscribe link in every email. Before each batch the system checks the price and stock of the featured products again, so no outdated offer goes out. Sending can also target subscribers in a single city.

Data from photo or PDF

The system reads a photo or PDF (a daily menu, an accounting statement, a photo to recognise) and turns it into structured data. First it shows what it read and what it matched, without saving anything. Saving is a separate button that a person presses after checking.

Android and iOS from one codebase

We write the app once and it ships to Android and iOS, and to the web where needed. We make a fix or a new screen in one place and it reaches every phone at the same time. Different roles see different screens inside the same app.

Updates without the app stores

We upload the new version of the screens to our server and phones download it the next time they open the app, with no new build in Google Play or the App Store. If a change needs new native code, the app says a full update is required. That way a fix reaches people in the field the same day.

Push notifications

A new job, an approval, a reassignment or an overdue task arrives as a notification on the right person's phone. Tapping it opens the relevant screen directly. One event sends one notification, even if the server restarts.

Online restaurant orders

The customer orders from the restaurant's menu for pickup or delivery and pays by card or on receipt. The restaurant accepts the order and marks it ready and handed over, while the customer follows the status through a personal link. Afterwards they can rate it, and ratings show in the restaurant's panel.

Table reservations

A guest requests a table for a date and time from the restaurant's page. The restaurant confirms or declines, and the guest sees the status through their personal link and can cancel from there. Requests sit in the restaurant's panel next to the orders.

Lunch menus by city

Restaurants publish the day's lunch menu with dishes, prices, portion weights and the time it is valid until. Visitors pick their city and see all of today's menus in one place. The menus also go out in the morning email to subscribers in the same city.
